Glitter's not gold

The allegations against former glam rocker Gary Glitter just get worse and worse. Despite what he's accused of now, he was a colourful and popular figure three decades ago. So much so, that a journalist I worked with in the UK told me how he had once been appointed "Gary Glitter roundsman" for a Fleet Street tabloid. His job was to keep track of what the pop star was up too, and he was often driven to distraction just finding out where Glitter was let alone what he was up to. When my colleague semi-retired to an Oxfordshire village some years later, he was surprised to look over the back fence and see who his new neighbour was. You've guessed it: Gary Glitter.
